King Johns Castle

Dating back to the 13th century, King John’s castle is one of Limerick’s oldest relics and most popular tourist attractions. Located on King John’s Island, the castle was built under the orders of the King in order to protect the city from rebellion and mutiny. Attempts to expose King John’s defences can still be seen today on the walls as you tour through its courtyards.

Ideally located just 15 minutes from the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel, King John’s Castle is one of the most popular visits among our guests. Explore the busy courtyard and meet the costumed guides who will reveal the secrets and scandals of castle life. There is a bus service located just outside our main entrance which takes you directly into the city centre, making us one of the most easily accessible hotels in Castletroy. Alternatively we would be delighted to call you a taxi, just let our receptionist’s know and they will be happy to help.
